Santa Barbara County reports 779 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday - KSBY San Luis Obispo News

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department reported 779 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday, increasing the county's case total to 21,323.

According to data from the health department, there are now 2,129 active or infectious cases of COVID-19 in the county.

Santa Barbara County has reported an average of 445 new cases of the virus per day in the past week, according to county health officials. There are no new COVID-19-related deaths in the county.

The Santa Barbara County Community Data Dashboard shows the Southern California region's test positivity rate is at 11.1 percent. In order for the Southern California region to return to the red tier from the current purple tier, the region's test positivity rate should be at or below 8 percent, according to state health officials.

The county's data dashboard also shows that for every 100,000 people in the Southern California region, approximately 38.3 cases of COVID-19 are confirmed. To progress to the less restrictive red tier, the region must have an adjusted case rate of seven or less per 100,000 people.

Public health officials said 981 health care workers in Santa Barbara County have tested positive for COVID-19.
