Utah reports 14 more deaths caused by COVID-19 - Salt Lake Tribune

The Utah Department of Health reported 14 more COVID-19 deaths on Friday — and, even though 10 of those happened before May 25, four in a day is the most the state has seen since May 19.

The number of Utahns hospitalized with the coronavirus took a big jump on Friday — from 158 to 203, a one-day increase of 22%. However, there were two fewer people in intensive care because of COVID-19.

Vaccine doses administered in past day/total doses administered • 8,312 / 2,818,277.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 1,376,548.

Cases reported in past day • 309.

Deaths reported in past day • 14, although 10 of those were before May 25 and were only recently confirmed to have been caused by COVID-19.

Salt Lake County reported nine deaths: a man between the ages of 25-44, three men and a woman 45-64, a man 65-84 and three women 85-plus.

There were two deaths in Davis County: a man 45-64 and a man 65-84. And two deaths in Utah County: a man 45-64 and a man 65-84.

And a woman 85-plus died in Weber County.

Tests reported in past day • 3,618 people were tested for the first time. A total of 6,413 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 203. That’s 45 more than on Thursday. Of those currently hospitalized, 63 are in intensive care, two fewer than on Thursday.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 8.5%. That’s lower than the seven-day average of 9%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Friday’s rate was 4.8%, lower than the seven-day average of 6%

Totals to date • 413,317 cases; 2,351 deaths; 17,393 hospitalizations; 2,778,466 people tested.
