Quotes of the week

• “I don’t think we’re gonna see lockdowns. I think we have enough of the percentage of people in the country - not enough to crush the outbreak - but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter. But things are going to get worse.” – Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, to ABC’s “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl.

• “If you get sick with the Alpha variant, you could infect about two other unvaccinated people. If you get sick with the Delta variant, we estimate that you could infect about five other unvaccinated people - more than twice as many as the original strain.” - CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

• “The next variant is just around the corner, if we do not all get vaccinated. I just beg the American people to understand that to defeat this virus, we have to get everybody’s level of immunity up, and that’s just the way it is.” – Adm. Brett Giroir, former coronavirus testing czar under President Trump, to CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
