A man seen fleeing the scene of a shooting that left another man dead in Anaheim was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff with police Wednesday afternoon, May 26, officials said.
Officers were summoned to reports of a shooting at a residence on the 600 block of Olive Street at about 11 a.m., Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
Responding officers found the victim and saw another man running away.
The fleeing man went into a nearby home on the 800 block of Olive Street and barricaded inside, Carringer said. The residents were evacuated while a SWAT team was summoned to negotiate with the man.
The man inside refused to surrender and “chemical agents” were unsuccessful in coaxing him out, Carringer said. Authorities eventually sent a police dog into the home to disable the him, and then took him into custody at about 2:16 p.m.
The barricaded man was taken to a hospital Wednesday afternoon for treatment of dog bites, Carringer said. It was not immediately clear whether the barricaded man was involved in the homicide, Carringer said.
