Let's make one thing abundantly clear: SoulCycle instructors, no matter how many Instagram followers they have, are not teachers.
While parents and teachers nationwide are experiencing perpetual consternation over reopening schools, a New York City spin influencer shared that she got a COVID-19 vaccine last week, ahead of many other public school teachers in the Big Apple.
Stacey Griffith, a famed 52-year-old "founding" coach at the bougie fitness empire, drove an hour outside of her neighborhood to get the vaccine. It was a drive that, she said, was "worth every minute!" "It takes a village," her post read.
After severe backlash from her commenter base, she told the Daily Beast, which first broke the news: "“Having me vaccinated can stop the short spread within groups!"
"In my profession of health and wellness as a teacher," she added, "it’s my priority daily to keep my community and their respiratory systems operating at full capacity so they can beat this virus if they are infected by it."
She also insisted that she did not pay or get any favors, despite tagging multiple people who aided her efforts to get the vaccine in the now-deleted post.
A memo from newly-appointed SoulCycle CEO Evelyn Webster obtained by Vox reporter Alex Abad-Santos, a chronicler of the internal turmoil within the company, disavowed her comments.
"SoulCycle instructors do not qualify as educators to receive the vaccine based solely on their roles at SoulCycle and should not be attempting to receive the vaccine unless they are otherwise eligible to do so, based on appropriate state regulations," Webster's memo read.
SoulCycle did not immediately respond to a request for comment from SFGATE.
