Publix will begin offering appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine at all 730 of its in-store pharmacies, the Lakeland grocer announced Thursday.
Starting Friday morning, Publix’s vaccine registration system will have the newly expanded availability and include 136 new stores in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. The appointment system also will include slots in Citrus and Hernando counties, which had been paused due to vaccine shipment delays last week.
“We’re pleased to bring appointment opportunities to each of our in-store Florida pharmacies,” Publix CEO Todd Jones said in a statement. “We know how important this vaccine is to the people we serve, and we are grateful we can expand our ability to help our communities during this time of need.”
Publix was the first retail pharmacy to partner with the state to administer the Moderna vaccine in Florida. Now, Walmart and Winn-Dixie stores also are offering the vaccine across the state.
Floridians who are 65 years or older or work as frontline health care workers are eligible to get the vaccine from a retail pharmacist. Appointments can be made only through Publix’s online system at publix.com/covidvaccine.
The new set of appointments will go up online Friday at 7 a.m.
The online reservation systems will typically open with new appointments every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, according to Publix. But appointment slots during each launch will vary and may not include every participating store or county.
