The Oregon Health Authority on Thursday reported six COVID-19 deaths and 733 coronavirus cases, sending the state’s case trajectory higher.
Oregon is now averaging about 600 cases a day over the past week, up more than 50% from two weeks ago. Thursday’s reported test positivity rate hit 4.1%, slightly below the weekly average.
More than 1.5 million Oregonians are now partially or fully vaccinated against COVID-19. But state officials have identified more variants of the coronavirus, setting up a race to inoculate residents before more contagious infections spread.
Vaccines: Oregon reported 44,971 newly administered doses, which includes 29,445 Wednesday and the remainder from previous days.
Where the new cases are by county: Baker (16), Benton (18), Clackamas (63), Clatsop (3), Columbia (10), Coos (9), Crook (5), Curry (3), Deschutes (53), Douglas (10), Grant (1), Hood River (6), Jackson (34), Jefferson (5), Josephine (13), Klamath (46), Lane (74), Lincoln (6), Linn (23), Malheur (2), Marion (56), Morrow (1), Multnomah (120), Polk (22), Tillamook (3), Umatilla (9), Union (3), Wasco (8), Washington (98) and Yamhill (13).
Who died: Oregon’s 2,450th COVID-19 death is a 93-year-old Clackamas County woman who tested positive Jan. 14 and died April 9 at her residence. Her death certificate listed COVID-19 as a cause or significant condition contributing to death.
The 2,451st fatality is a 71-year-old Baker County woman who tested positive April 7 and died April 14 at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,452nd death is a 62-year-old Clackamas County man who tested positive March 22 and died April 5 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
The 2,453rd fatality is a 52-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive March 24 and died April 14 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,454th death is an 82-year-old Linn County man who tested positive March 24 and died April 8 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend.
The 2,455th fatality is an 89-year-old Polk County man who tested positive March 31 and died April 13 at Salem Hospital.
Each person had underlying medical conditions or officials were working to determine if the person had health conditions.
Hospitalizations: 195 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, down five from Wednesday. That includes 53 people in intensive care, up one from Wednesday.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 172,931 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,455 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 2,399,856 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 966,834 people and partially vaccinating 549,755 people.
