Coronavirus in Oregon: 2,040 cases, 44 deaths as September already fifth-deadliest month - OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority on Tuesday announced 2,040 new cases and 44 COVID-19 deaths, making September already the fifth-deadliest month of the pandemic.

At least 204 Oregonians with COVID-19 have died during the first 14 days of September, surpassing the total from all of February, which is now the sixth-deadliest month.

August was similarly bleak, recording the third-most deaths of the pandemic at nearly 400. Officials have warned that September will be grim, with cases and hospitalizations declining but remaining near record highs.

Where the new cases are by county: Baker (18), Benton (29), Clackamas (160), Clatsop (35), Columbia (21), Coos (72), Crook (45), Curry (17), Deschutes (119), Douglas (102), Gilliam (2), Grant (17), Harney (15), Hood River (13), Jackson (117), Jefferson (15), Josephine (44), Klamath (86), Lake (36), Lane (136), Lincoln (11), Linn (69), Malheur (99), Marion (205), Morrow (14), Multnomah (155), Polk (44), Sherman (1), Tillamook (9), Umatilla (80), Union (5), Wallowa (5), Wasco (20), Washington (160) and Yamhill (64).

Who died: The state did not immediately release death information.

Hospitalizations: 1,082 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, up seven from Monday. That includes 288 people in intensive care, 14 more than Monday.

Vaccines: Oregon reported 8,392 newly administered doses, which includes 4,301 administered Monday and the remainder from previous days.

Since it began: Oregon has reported 303,532 confirmed or presumed infections and 3,490 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 4,970,897 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,443,376 people and partially vaccinating 241,885 people.
