Novant Health has fired about 175 employees for failing to comply with the company's COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
The North Carolina-based company, which runs 15 hospitals, announced last week that it had suspended 375 workers who had not received the vaccine. By last Friday, 200 of those workers had gotten their first dose, according to Novant spokeswoman Megan Rivers.
While Novant confirmed that the remaining employees who declined to get the vaccine had been terminated, the company would not say exactly how many that was. The company, which employs about 29,000, said it had a 99% compliance rate with its vaccine mandate.
This comes on the heels of employees in New York hospitals being let go as the state’s vaccine mandate for healthcare workers hit its deadline on Monday.
New York-Presbyterian Hospitals confirmed that it had released over 200 employees this morning.
"So out of 48,000 employees and affiliated physicians, we have less than 220 that have not chosen to get the vaccine," Steven Corwin, the president and CEO at New York-Presbyterian Hospitals, told CBS News.
The exact number of healthcare workers that have been let go in New York is not yet known, as many workers obtained the vaccine during the last few days before the deadline and some hospitals have put noncompliant employees on temporary leave.

About 16% of the roughly 450,000 hospital workers in the state had not been fully vaccinated as of last week, according to the New York State Department of Health.
